This course will cover the process of antibiotic development including case studies of antibacterial, antiparastic, and antiviral drugs.  We will review the need for new agents and both traditional approaches and novel strategies for producing  new antibiotic compounds and developing those into drugs.  The first day will be presentations by the instructors followed a week later by a session where students will present drug development proposals.  At day 2, registered students will be asked to present their proposal in 3 slides (about 8 minutes, followed by about 7 minutes of questions).  Presentation length and format may be adjusted depending on the number of registered students.
